Our facilities...

The Bennington Motor Inn attracts her guests with an appealing country-inn atmosphere.  We've remodeled, from the baths, to the furnishings, to the lovely borders which wrap around each of our guestrooms!   Situated on a gentle hillside, we are just 3 1/2 blocks from downtown Bennington, and so,  restaurants (starting right next door),  churches, shopping and historic attractions are just a  pleasant walk away. Views of Vermont's  Green Mountains surround us, and Bennington's own  Mount Anthony is at our back door.

We have 16 guest rooms, 13 of which are in our 'main building.'   Five of those rooms are  upstairs, offering a loftier view of the mountain scenery which is available as well, to our guests in the eight  rooms on our  lower level.  One of those lower-floor rooms hosts two bedrooms, sleeping up to six guests quite comfortably!  Our remaining three guest rooms are quietly nestled to the rear of our property, and we appropriately  refer to them as our 'Garden Rooms.'     Each guestroom is individually decorated with "bed & breakfast" charm and all rooms are actually located in the same building, which in Vermont tradition, is arranged in typical "add-on" architecture.

A history of hospitality...

The Bennington Motor Inn offers newly decorated guestrooms with cozy, colonial charm and all modern conveniences including private shower baths, color cable  television (with HBO & Disney, American Movie Classics & ESPN), touch-tone telephones with data ports, air conditioning, individual heat thermostats,  and most importantly, a comfortable night's rest.   In our office you'll find a variety of local restaurant  menus to guide you in your choice of dining. There's much to see in historic Bennington,  and we'll send you on a day's outing with our trusty map.  Sip a cup of freshly-brewed  coffee in your room, and plan your day's itinerary.

Just up the road from us is the Bennington Museum, where you can walk back through  history and view Revolutionary artifacts, 1776 Bennington Battle flag, as well as the Grandma Moses Schoolhouse Museum Collection of fine originals.   Just  around the bend is the beautiful Old First Church with its historic cemetery, including the gravesite of the poet, Robert Frost and his beloved wife (and if you are an enthusiast of Frost's poetry, allow time for the Robert Frost Stone House Museum in nearby Shaftsbury).    Monument Avenue, with its stately old colonials, will lead you to the Bennington Battle Monument.   A short ride in the monument's elevator  will provide breathtaking views of our tri-state area, where you can gaze northwest toward the Bennington Battlefield in nearby Walloomsac, NY or south toward Williamstown, MA (where you can visit the campus of Williams College, enjoy Williams Theatre during its show season, or gaze upon original oils of the Masters at the Clark Art Institute).

We're just across the way from a car lover's dream.....Hemmings Motor News with its vintage car display and  their Old-Fashioned Filling Station.  At Hemmings you'll discover a free auto display of 25 special interest classic cars, muscle cars, vintage commercial trucks, pickup trucks and panel wagons plus engine displays, automobilia and antique test equipment (10am--3pm May--October; by appointment November--April; phone 1-800-227-4373).  The Car Lover's Store is filled with models, books, signs & clothing and has New England's largest collection of vintage automobile signs for sale.  Hemmings' old fashioned full-service Sunoco filling station is where you can "fill'er up" just like in the good old days.......How  about 18 holes of  golf at Bennington's panoramic Mt. Anthony Country Club or a drive back into history through  Bennington's three covered bridges, enroute to the historic Park-McCullough House?  Don't forget the Bennington Potter's, so you can purchase a wonderful memory of your visit!   Antique, craft and gift shops will lure you by day; and in the evening, visit Bennington's Center for the Arts,  which presents live theatre throughout the year (and of course, art exhibits by day) including the new Covered Bridge Museum!

To the north of us, near Manchester,  there's Equinox Skyline Drive for truly outstanding  views, and perhaps a picnic lunch high above the valleys where Hildene (the mansion-home of   Robert Todd Lincoln) can be toured.  Norman Rockwell fans love the museum in Arlington.   During Summer and Fall, the Green Mountain Railroad's clickety clack along the rails will let you enjoy Vermont's pastoral scenery!   Then there's hiking the Long Trail, or perhaps a swim in Lake Shaftsbury.  If  you stay long enough there's the excitement of taking a snow mobile tour in nearby Woodford or cross-country skiing at nearby Prospect Mountain, just  one of the well-known slopes within 30 miles of the Bennington Motor Inn (including  downhill-alpine skiing at Bromely, Stratton and Mt.Snow)!
